re: i haven't played a large game since i pl by q1

I feel mostly the same, I love the itch trawl and not because I feel like I should, I just prefer small games.

For me I think it's because I don't really like clear communication, like a sanded down Aaa game. I like when the goals and mechanics are unclear, especially when they're unclear on accident. it's thrilling to play a horribly opaque game by someone who's never made a game before, you have no idea what's gonna happen next

I like a certain kind of pixel art for the same reason. if the game isnt stimulating my imagination I tend to get bored

hmm I should also find sources to get me out of my bubble of the-sort-of-stuff-that-i-click-on. any sources you can share?

re: cut off the head by rp0

i haven't played a large game since i played disco two years ago so it's easy for me to agree. though it's not really a choice of principle if it's just what i'm used to. i sure do love a good itch trawl. i think the fact that some of these games are so short makes them so beautiful to me. maybe it's because finding 10 games that don't really interest me before 1 that does makes that interest spikier. maybe it's because things affect me in slices so i'm more conducive to a short n focused experience than a long, meticulously paced one. sometimes when the right one hits at the right time it's like it's beaming into my brain. i think what's happening is that it's triggering my imagination.

but i did wonder recently if my taste in stuff is too... insular? i let myself get drawn to stuff naturally but natural ends up enforcing my status quo. i agree curations like indiepocalypse are good. i should check it out more often. and all the other sources of curation i've found and enjoyed. i should find a way to keep track of these sources.

cut off the head

I think the only way I can really get myself to play smaller games is to simply not play the largest ones. abandon the cultural moment. even if you grew up with a very successful indie, they are now the establishment. erect barriers. do not play. cut off the head.

dramatic, but perhaps necessary. I'm not actually going to do this but I do like a dramatic manifesto every now and then. cut off the head. if you're playing popular stuff you're not appropriately starved, your will to forage is low

can't wait to start streaming indiepocalypse games, I'm very exciting for going through the games
